Based in Stanislavski’s method, a study in the discovery of self and the connection between real life        experience and theatrical life.  Emphasis is put on risk taking, active doing, and physical and emotional availability. 

 

  • Musical Theatre Performance

Technique in acting the story through song, finding specificity in vocal and physical choices and clarity in acting beats, understanding music style and strong acting intention.

 

  • Musical Theatre Voice and Singing

Vocal intensive class focusing on Musical Theatre singing styles, vocal health, endurance, vocal range, and authority.

 

  • Musical Theatre History

An examination of the history, historiography, performance and influence on current trends of the American Musical through lecture, criticism, review and research.

 

  • Directing

A diverse study of storytelling, utilizing script analysis, use of space, imagery, blocking strategy, design influence, and actor coaching.

 

  • Public Speaking

The utilization of acting techniques applied in a business or non-artistic setting.  This class encourages students to be storytellers, with the goal being to make even the most seemingly mundane subjects interesting to the listener.

 

  • Cabaret Story-Telling

A study of creating a one-person performance piece that has the potential to be used in a professional setting.  An emphasis is put on mining individuality in an effort to showcase casting potential.

 

  • Audition Technique

A study of the professional audition in every theatrical capacity, including study in the skills needed to gain access to the professional world of theatre.

 

  • Beginning Musical Theatre Dance

Fundamental class working with students on the basics of dance styles and techniques used in the American Musical Theatre.

 

  • Voice and Speech

Technique in connecting voice to breath using the foundation of a grounded body, primarily influenced by the Kristin Linklater technique.  This breath, voice, body connection is translated into performance.

 

  • Acting for the Internet

An interactive study of self-produced, web based content intended to showcase students’ creativity and unique voice, exploring short film making, editing and publicizing.
